Barn Dance Caller
for Barn Dances, Hoedown and Ceilidh Dances
Old Friends
Ray Lee
and Devil's Fire are back together
Ray Lee and Devil's Fire were originally
together when Ray arrived in the Cheshire area and Devil's Fire were
a young fledgling band. Ray was one of the circuit callers for the band.
The
years passed and Devil's Fire became more and more popular - as indeed
did Ray Lee.
Devil's Fire realised
they now needed a full time caller, and to use the words of their lead
instrument player Dave Hayes " We
needed a full time caller and we knew Ray from way back. We personally
think
that Ray is without doubt
one of the best callers anywhere in Britain
and we are thrilled to have him on board as our full-time caller" -
exciting times are ahead for this formidable alliance !

A Tale of Time
Whitby Folk Festival in North Yorkshire
has for many years been one of England’s leading Folk Festivals.
For the last few years two highland pipers, Reg Flower from Macclesfield
and Ian Ferguson from Bournemouth
have led the Festival Processions.
In 2003 Reg commented to Ian that
what would be good was if they could find a drummer to join them. Ian
said “Yes, I know, twenty-five
years ago I worked in a duo called Jocks on the Rocks with a drummer
called Ray Lee (yes me!) playing at Festivals and clubs, playing Pipe & Drum & singing
mainly Scottish Traditional songs, sadly we lost touch twenty-five years
ago”. A bemused Reg said “Ray Lee, well Ian I have news for
you Ray is a drummer in South Cheshire Pipe Band of which I am Pipe Major”.
So after twenty five years Ray and Ian were back
in contact with each other. In 2004 Ray Lee and Bren Lee were invited
to Whitby to Join Reg
and Ian in the final procession. At the final ceilidh, Jocks on the Rocks
were reunited as a musical duet as Ian and Ray piped and drummed in the
Festival Garland
